Annaba Launches First-Ever “Bike to Work” Commuter Program
In a groundbreaking move for Algeria, Annaba Bike City introduced its inaugural “Bike to Work” initiative on September 16, 2023, aligning with International Ozone Layer Protection Day Held at the Union Sportive du Pôni Innovation Centre, the launch featured notable figures—including representatives from the local Environment Directorate and the National Gendarmerie—emphasizing the city’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility .

Campaigns & Partnerships
- Partnerships formed with institutions such as SARL hyginova, Hikma Medical Labs, Orkids Incubator, and Forest Adventure, collectively funding incentives like helmets, repair kits, safety vests, event apparel, and free workshops.

Smart Tracking System
Participants earn monthly points across four performance categories:
- Total kilometers ridden
- Number of riding days

September Challenge
Challenge Month (22 Sept – 22 Oct 2023) saw riders cover an impressive 1,665 km, cutting 309 kg of CO₂ emissions . In total, the first year wrapped up over 9,800 km cycled to work by the celebration on November 1, which also featured award ceremonies and community-building rides

Awareness & Expansion Activities
- Roadside exposés ran across major city exits (Sidi Ibrahim, train station, National Route 44) with support from national police, driving schools, transport, and environment authorities .
- Events were also held on International Biodiversity Day (May 22), World Bicycle Day (June 3), and World Environment Day (June 5), reinforcing the health and environmental benefits of commuting by bike.
